Oil immersed transformers use oil as the main insulation method and rely on oil as the cooling medium, such as oil immersed self cooling, oil immersed air cooling, oil immersed water cooling, and forced oil circulation. The main components of a transformer include iron core, winding, oil tank, oil pillow, respirator, explosion-proof tube (pressure relief valve), radiator, insulation sleeve, tap changer, gas relay, thermometer, oil purifier, etc.
Between the layers of silicon steel sheets in oil immersed transformers, due to long-term immersion in the transformer, oil can penetrate into it, and the transformer oil has elasticity and buffering effect, so the noise of oil immersed transformers is low. But its pressure regulating switch is inside the fuel tank, and the contact of the switch during pressure regulation is not visible from the outside. If the contact cannot be made, it is equivalent to a circuit breaker. If the contact is poor, it is easy to burn out the switch when the load is too high.
Operating temperature: Oil immersed transformers can operate according to the nameplate under specified cooling conditions, but the top oil temperature should not exceed 90 ºC. To prevent insulation aging of the transformer, the top oil temperature should generally not exceed 85 ºC frequently, and the alarm setting should be set at 80 ºC.
Overload: Transformers can operate under normal overload and accident overload conditions, and overload signals should be installed. If overload signals cannot be installed, a comprehensive measuring instrument should be used. The overload signal value for oil immersed transformers should be 1.1-1.2 times the rated current of the transformer. The overload signal value of dry-type transformers should be 1.2-1.3 times the rated current of the transformer (based on the current of the fan when it is running).
After the overload signal of the transformer is activated, attention should be paid to the changes in its load and temperature. If conditions permit, timely inspection and examination of the cause of the overload should be carried out. If the overload is high (more than 1.3 times the rated current) or the temperature exceeds the upper limit, the load should be reduced. When installing a comprehensive side instrument on a transformer, data should be downloaded monthly and the load analyzed. For transformers with a tendency towards overload, the data download cycle should be shortened, and the transformer load and temperature should be measured during the calculation of overload time. If conditions permit, timely inspections and checks should be conducted to identify the cause of overload. If the load on the transformer exceeds the rated current by more than 1.3 times or the temperature exceeds the upper limit, the load should be reduced.
