Oil-immersed transformers leverage oil as the primary insulation and cooling medium, featuring diverse methods such as self-cooling, air cooling, water cooling, and forced oil circulation. Essential components include the iron core, winding, oil tank, oil pillow, respirator, explosion-proof tube (pressure relief valve), radiator, insulation sleeve, tap changer, gas relay, thermometer, and oil purifier.
The layers of silicon steel sheets in oil-immersed transformers benefit from long-term immersion, allowing oil to penetrate and provide elasticity and buffering. This results in notably low noise levels. However, the pressure regulating switch is housed inside the fuel tank, obscuring visibility. Poor switch contact under pressure can lead to circuit breaker-like behavior and potential switch burnout under high loads.
Operating temperature: Oil-immersed transformers operate effectively under specified cooling conditions with a maximum top oil temperature of 90 ºC. To minimize insulation aging, the top oil temperature should generally not exceed 85 ºC frequently, with an alarm setting recommended at 80 ºC.
Overload: These transformers are capable of handling both normal and accidental overloads. Overload signals or comprehensive measuring instruments should be installed. For oil-immersed transformers, overload signals should range from 1.1-1.2 times the rated current, while dry-type transformers should range from 1.2-1.3 times the rated current, based on fan current.
Upon activation of the overload signal, monitor load and temperature fluctuations closely. Conduct timely inspections to identify overload causes. For overloads exceeding 1.3 times the rated current or when temperatures surpass upper limits, reduce the load. Comprehensive side instruments should be monitored monthly, with shortened cycles for transformers prone to overload. Record load and temperature data for accurate overload time calculation and timely inspections.
